150 000 eels ware released after they were confiscated…

Experts from Varna and Rousse (Bulgaria) released 150 000 eels on the Danube River near Silistra. The eels were confiscated by Customs Airport Sofia, due to lack of documents – a rescue center from Rousse announced.

Experts from the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water of Bulgaria have verified the amount of the protected species, which is approximately 70 kg (150 000 eels). The eels are in the so-called “after the glass” phase, which gives them chances to survive in the river.

The European eel (Anguilla anguilla) is a predatory fish of the Emerald Eagles family of the order Emerald. It lives in sweet waters that are connected to the Atlantic Ocean (North America, Europe and Africa), the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.

In the recent past it has been widely spread in many rivers in Bulgaria. Its habitat was in the pools of rivers in southern Bulgaria.
