The Rock Monastery of Basarbovo is the most impressive site of the Dunav Ultra: Via Pontica event – according to a questioning the participants in this year’s adventure.
The unique Monastery, located in the region of the village of Basarbovo, dates back to the Middle Ages. The place is the only active rock monastery in Bulgaria.
Second place in the 2019 ranking is the Srebarna Biosphere Park, located near the town of Silistra, and the third place is occupied by the ancient Roman town Ulpia Oescus, located near the village of Gigen.
Other landmarks included in the Dunav Ultra: Via Pontica were: Baba Vida Fortress in Vidin, the Dimum Archaeological Site in Belene, the Clock Tower in Svishtov, the Freedom Memorial in Ruse, the 123K Kater in Tutrakan, and the Medjzidi Tabia Fortress in Silistra.
