WHAT IS DUNAV ULTRA: TEAMWORK?

Dunav Ultra: Teamwork is a cycling adventure presented as a 670-km multi day cycle challenge. The event’s main goal is to successfully cover the Dunav Ultra cycle route distance on a bicycle – individually or in a team – and participants are obliged to do so 100 per cent under their own steam.
Further to being a personal challenge for each participant, the ride unites and motivates all cycle enthusiasts with its cause to promote cycle tourism along the Danube river.
The cycle journey is not a competition, but a group sport experience and personal challenge for each participant. In this journey all cyclists start together, but everyone is free to follow his or her own tactics and tempo.
Admission is granted only to persons of legal age. During the journey is allowed usage of own logistic, technical or other type of support.
Participants follow the defined route and ride successively through all of the larger towns along the Danube in Bulgaria, including Vidin, Lom, Kozloduy, Oryahovo, Nikopol, Svishtov, Ruse, Tutrakan, Silistra, and then Dobrich.
The finish point of the journey is in the region of Durankulak village, on the Black Sea coast, where it meets the migration route of birds from Europe to Africa – Via Pontica.

ABOUT DUNAV ULTRA CYCLE ROUTE

Dunav Ultra cycle route is winner of the “Innovation of the Year in Tourism 2017” award in the annual contest held by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The route connects the northwesternmost village in Bulgaria – Kudelin – with the northeasternmost village in the country – Durankulak. The route goes through or near 89 towns and villages along the Danube to the Black Sea, and through numerous natural phenomena, cultural sites, conservation areas, remains from the Roman Empire, modern attractions and public logistic centres.
Exclusively for the Dunav Ultra: Teamwork event, the GPX track and the printed maps used by the participants have been designed to guarantee 100 per cent ride on paved roads.

RULES

Dunav Ultra: Teamwork is not a race and there is no prize fund. By definition, all participants set off on an individual journey. All cyclists start together on 7th September 2018 from Vidin, in a place specified by the organizer.
Participants ride a bicycle on their own, following the route of the GPX track and map (provided in advance).
Besides covering the distance, cyclists “unlock” different levels of the route. Unlocking of levels is confirmed by reaching predefined points and placing special stickers on a plastic card which is included in the start package.
Participants who have collected all special stickers along the route and have reached the finish point – the village of Durankulak / Via Pontica within 5 days from the start, are listed as having successfully completed the adventure. They receive an individual certificate and a plaque.
Cyclists who aim to reach the finish point within 48 hours from the start, must participate in a “Team” category (2 or 4 people). All teams that aim to finish in 48 hours need to use GPS tracking devices provided by the Organizer.
All teams that have covered the distance in less than 48 hours receive a GPS certificate and a plaque.
*In 2018, cyclists in the “Individual” category are not entitled to receive a GPS tracking device and will not be issued a GPS certificate.
**Only for teams/participants aiming to finish in 48 hours: use of electric bicycles is forbidden.
