Dunav Ultra: The River, Dobruja and The Sea
2022
More than 160 cyclists from Bulgaria and Romania joined the 700 km mass ride. The event was officially supported by the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria, and a record number of 12 municipalities. Bogdan Kirchev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) was the first to reach the endpoint.
The oldest participant was Professor Antoaneta Momchilova (from Ruse, Bulgaria, 79 years old). The cause was the promotion of more than 110 settlements through which the route passes.
Dunav Ultra: Back To The River
2021
More than 140 cyclists from Bulgaria and Romania take part in the mass ride. First to reach the endpoint was Yavor Danailov (from Sevlievo, Bulgaria). The oldest participant was Nikolay Gabrovski (Ruse, 76 y.o.). The cause of the event was the promotion of over 110 settlements through/by which the route passes.
Dunav Ultra: Follow the River
2020
More than 120 cyclists start for the annual edition of the Dunav Ultra route. The first to reach the endpoint of the route was Alexander Alexandrov from Vratsa, Bulgaria. The oldest participant was Petar Dimitrov (from Varna, Bulgaria 72 y.o.) The cause of the event was to promote over 110 settlements through/by which the route passes.
Dunav Ultra: The Marathon
2020
Ultramarathoner Vladimir Stavrev is the only athlete who has run the full distance of the Dunav Ultra route. Stavrev started from the village of Kudelin and ran 721 km to the village of Durankulak in 6 1/2 days. The campaign aroused high interest, representatives and local people welcomed the marathon runner. The cause of the marathon was to promote the Dunav Ultra route and the settlements where the route passes.
Dunav Ultra: Via Pontica
2019
For the first time, participants in the annual mass ride exceeded the number of over 100 cyclists. Tsvetan Chorlev (Pazardzhik, Bulgaria) was the first to reach the endpoint. The cause of the participants was the promotion of over 110 settlements through/by which the route passes.
Dunav Ultra: Teamwork
2018
First mass ride on the Dunav Ultra route. For the first time cyclists from another country took part and Romanian cyclist Sorin Gaggiano became the first foreigner to ride the route. The first team to reach the endpoint was Svetoslav Andreev and Daniel Donev (Varna, Bulgaria). The cause of the initiative was to promote cycling tourism and the Dunav Ultra route.
Dunav Ultra: Gladiators on Bikes
2017
The only race on the Dunav Ultra route so far. According to the rules, men and women compete equally, external technical assistance is forbidden, and four checkpoints are named – “Checkpoints of Death” – the one who does not reach the checkpoints in a certain time – drops out. Only four participants reach the final. The winner is Yordan Stavrev (Popovo, Bulgaria) and the second place is taken by Iveta Alexieva.
Dunav Ultra: River monsters
2016
Four amateur athletes – Boris Begamov, Stanislav Evgenyev, Ilian Lazarov and Philip Lhamsuren start for an extreme endeavor on the Dunav Ultra route – 700 km duathlon – 40 km running and 640 km cycling in under 48 hours. Their goal is for at least one of them to complete the ordeal successfully. Three of them complete the challenge – the cause of the unusual event was to promote settlements and cycling tourism along the Danube in Bulgaria.
Dunav Ultra: Hungry for Speed
2015
Two cyclists from the first edition of the Dunav Ultra, Boris Begamov and Peter Zlatkov, set out on an extreme endeavor – covering the 700-kilometer distance of the route in less than 48 hours on bikes without speed (Single Speed Bikes). After an unsuccessful attempt in 2014, they now manage to cover the distance in 44:40:00 hours. Their cause was to promote the international cycling route Eurovelo 6.
Dunav Ultra: The Beginning
2014
Three friends and amateur cyclists Boris Begamov, Emil Shukadarov and Peter Zlatkov decided to ride a 700-kilometer route near the northern border of Bulgaria in under 48 hours by bicycle. None of the three had ridden a road bike before the venture. The adventure is accompanied by perils, as only one of the starters – the initiator of the venture Begumov, reached the end point – the village of Durankulak, in a time of 53:00:00 hours. The Dunav Ultra route was born.
